About The Attraction

The iconic Geirangerfjord is considered one of the most beautiful fjords in the world, and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list together with the Nærøyfjord. The Geirangerfjord is one of Norway’s most popular natural attractions. The fjord is 260 metres deep while the surrounding mountains are 1600-1700 metres high. The fjord is also known for its spectacular waterfalls and deserted fjord farms high up on the steep cliffsides. The idyllic nature and the dramatic mountains will impress any visitor in the area. The now deserted fjord farms tell the tales of a different time and way of life. You can visit some of the farms, such as Skageflå, Knivsflå, Blomberg, Matvik, Syltevik and Westerås. You can spend the night at Westerås, sample the local food served at the outdoor restaurant, whilst enjoying the spectacular view of the fjord below. At Westerås farm, 320 meters above the Geirangerfjord, you can spend the night or enjoy local food served at the outdoor restaurant with beautiful views of the fjord. Westerås farm has a long history, and it has been discovered that people have been in the area all the way back to the Stone Age. The farm itself is registered in official documents from the 17th century. There was activity at the farm until the summer of 1970s when summer tourism started. Today, the farm is run by Arnfinn and Iris Westerås. Here, high up above the fjord, they enjoy the company of sheep, goats and llamas, as well as tourists visiting during the summer. In winter they are closed due to the risk of avalanges. The farm is an excellent starting point for hiking in the area, such as to the Storseterfossen waterfall.
